Assistive Technology and Home Modifications Scheme
The way the federal government funds mobility and independence equipment has changed.
As of November 2025, it’s now possible to get specific My Aged Care funding for Assistive Technology.
Assistive technology comprises a wide range of products: mobility scooters, wheelchairs, lift chairs, bedroom and bathroom aids, and so on. Mounties Care has the expertise and range to provide you with many of these.
Under the previous scheme, assistive technology purchases were to be drawn from the total pool of your homecare package funding. Now your aged care assessment can result in a pool of funds that must be spent on this equipment.
What equipment is eligible?
My Aged Care lists 6 categories of equipment available under the scheme: Self-care, mobility, domestic life, communication and information management, managing body functions, and home modification. Mounties Care’s product lineup all fits into at least one of these categories.
Who chooses what products I get?
In conjunction with your Support at Home provider, you are the one that decides. In some cases, where your requirements are especially complicated, your provider may suggest a consult with a health professional such as an occupational therapist.
How much funding can I expect?
The amount ranges from $500 to $15,000, depending on the result of your assessment.
How do I apply?
There is no specific application for this scheme. Rather, it falls under the Support at Home program. You can apply for the Support at Home program by calling 1800 200 422, booking an in person appointment, or applying online. You can read more at the My Aged Care website itself.
Finding a registered provider
All Support at Home packages require you to use a Registered Provider to help oversee and manage your funds. You can find the complete list here.
Mobility & Independence staff can’t sign you to a registered provider ourselves, however Mounties Care does have a Home Care division, who are a registered provider with a lot of experience in the My Aged Care system. We’re happy to set you up with an appointment with one of the team.
How can we help?
Once you have your assessment and a registered provider, all you have to do is visit the store! There’s likely to be some back and forth between ourselves, you, and your provider, but the process is actually fairly straightforward from that point on. We’ll do our very best to match you with the products that best improve your life!
